這首歌是老楊眾多經典中最有名的歌曲"之一",也是我最喜歡的歌曲,收錄在1979 年發行的Rust Never Sleeps 專輯中。

"The King is gone But he's not forgotten;This is the story of Johnny Rotten”

King 指的是貓王 Elvis( The King of Rock 'n' Roll),Jonny Rotten 則是Sex Pistols 的主唱。
1977年Elvis 死去,同年Sex Pistols 竄起!舞台上的表演者或許會隨著時代的交替而更換,演出的音樂類型也會有所不同。但搖滾的精神是永遠不會死的,Rock 始終是會繼續的Roll下去而這整張專輯,也是一張獻給Jonny Rotten、獻給Sex Pistols的專輯。

" It's better to burn out than to fade away”翻譯成中文或許可以當作”寧鳴而死,不默而生"。與其庸庸碌碌的逐漸消逝而去,不如大鳴大放,在生命中最燦爛的時候死去!這或許也是所有搖滾樂手們的心聲吧。不過這句歌詞最有名的部份不是在這首歌曲的部份,而是Kurt Cobain 寫在自己遺書中的最末句,有人認為Cobain也是受此影響,而選擇在他音樂生涯最高峰的時候死去。不過老楊本人是極力否認說他寫這句歌詞有任何消極的意味,他寫這首歌的最初目的是要激勵Rocker能一直堅持音樂下去,Cobain 絕對不是受他影響而寧可"burn out " 也不願就這樣"fade away"。

Oasis 也有翻唱過這首歌,除了老楊之外,我最喜歡的就是他們的版本了。在向前人致敬的同時,帶著自己的風骨繼續創造著自己的世代。
